Crossword Puzzle Maker

Type a word and its clue on each line. The maker crosses as many words as it can, numbers the grid, and gives you a printable PDF with the answer key, a large-print copy and a link anyone can open to solve it online.

Tips for a crossword that works

Eight to fifteen words is the sweet spot. Words that share common letters (E, A, R, S, T) cross more easily, so a list with a few long words and a few short ones usually places every word. If a word doesn't fit, press "Try another layout" or add a word or two that share its letters.

Write each clue so it points to one answer. For young solvers, plain definitions and fill-in-the-blanks work best; the maker adds the letter count after each clue for you. Two-word answers are fine: type them with a space, like ICE CREAM, and the clue will show (3,5).

Teachers use the maker for vocabulary review: type this week's words with a short definition each, print one copy per student, and keep the answer key for yourself. Families use it for birthdays and holidays, with inside jokes and names as answers. Large-print copies put the grid on its own page and the clues at 16 point, which helps at a care-home activity table or for anyone who finds small print tiring.

Your words never leave your device unless you share a link, and even then they travel inside the link itself, not through our server.
