This is a general sports puzzle for kids who play, watch or just hear about games at recess. It mixes the names of popular sports with the people and things that go with them: who runs the game, what the winners take home, what players wear and the work that happens before game day.
The Easy clues are written for grades 2 to 5 and describe each word with something a child would see at a game or in gym class. Medium suits strong readers and sporty middle schoolers, and Hard is a challenge for the adults.
Several answers are long compound sport names, which is good for spelling and for reading longer words in chunks.
Using this puzzle
PE teachers can use it on an indoor day when the gym is booked. It's also a good sub-plan sheet, a quiet activity after field day or something to bring to a sibling's long weekend tournament.
Use the large-print PDF for younger kids, and let them check their work with the answer key on page two. Ten minutes is usually enough.
